On 21st November 2013 the digital workbook ‘Guided Choices towards a Circular Business Model’ is presented. This workbook supports companies to find out how the Circular Economy can be of value for them. The workbook is meant as a source of inspiration and support for small- and medium enterprises. The title is a promise: the workbook provides guided choices towards a circular business model. OPAi is one of the authors of this dynamic publication. The workbook can be downloaded at http://www.c2cbizz.com/tools/ or download here: Guided_Choices_towards_a_Circular_Business_Model.
The workbook is meant to be a source of inspiration and support for small- and medium enterprises (SME’s) that want to enter the Circular Economy. The focus is on the choices that companies need to make in their search for a circular business model. Each company is different and makes different choices. The workbook shows there are multiple solutions for the same problem. Based on the given possibilities the best solution for each company can be created. The workbook supports raising awareness, learning about the situation of the company and it’s partners, product (re-)design, service redesign and testing concepts in a business model calculation.
Creation of the ‘Guided Choices’ is an initiative of City Region Eindhoven (SRE) within the Interreg IVB project C2C BIZZ. The aim of C2C BIZZ is to apply Cradle to Cradle on business sites. To involve companies and entrepreneurs, SRE wants to give them more guidance on the circular economy topic to show how the Cradle to Cradle philosophy can lead to profits. Therefore Douwe Jan Joustra of One Planet Architecture institute (OPAi) and Frits Engelaer and Egbert de Jong of De Lage Landen were asked to join their forces and develop a guideline. The content was made based on questions; the questions that were asked during interviews and roundtable discussions with various businesses. The questions are used to cover several subjects related to the circular economy.
Circular economy & Cradle to Cradle
The circular economy is to be the economy of the future. An economy that creates new values. An economy that produces products today, which will become the resources of the future. An economy based on renewable sources of energy. An economy that connects responsibilities for people, planet and economy. An economy that is profitable. It enables producers to show the value and quality of the performance of their products to the customer. Products are designed for performance and also for re-use of all materials. The introduction of the circular economy brought a vision on resources, energy and most and for all on new ways of value creation and entrepreneurship. It is based on the principles and ideas of Cradle to Cradle: waste is food, use current solar income and celebrate diversity. The circular economy is the trending topic in business and policies. But how can you benefit?
C2C BIZZ is the collaboration of eleven North Western European partners with the objective to enhance the implementation of Cradle to Cradle on new and existing business sites. The three Cradle to Cradle principles are applied to the entire process of business area (re-) development, leading to business sites with a positive impact on environment, society and economy and that are future proof. During four years the different innovative aspects of transition towards Cradle to Cradle will be studied, developed and tested on pilot sites in different countries. Of course companies on the business sites will be involved to actively contribute and become aware of Cradle to Cradle. Together the pilots comprise one complete transnational Cradle to Cradle business site and a new form of park management. Tools, instruments and guidelines will be developed to facilitate the application of Cradle to Cradle on business sites. The final result of the project will be a roadmap, that leads the way to a 100% Cradle to Cradle business site. C2C BIZZ has received European Regional Development Funding through INTERREG IV B.
